10:30 AM | Hiking the Appalachian Trail<\/strong>

Local thru-hiker John Mosso will give a presentation about his 2,198-mile journey on the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Known on the trail as \u201cJohnny Appleseed,\u201d Mosso completed the iconic trek in 2025, spending 210 days hiking through 14 states before reaching the summit of Mount Katahdin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this engaging talk, John will share stories from the trail, including encounters with wildlife, the challenges of Pennsylvania\u2019s legendary \u201cRocksylvania\u201d terrain, and the unforgettable experience of crossing the Susquehanna River on his way north. He\u2019ll discuss how the landscapes of the Susquehanna Greenway helped prepare him for the adventure, the lessons he learned along the way, and what it takes to complete one of America\u2019s most celebrated long-distance hikes. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

11:30 AM | Plastics & Our River<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association will present \u201cPlastics and Our River,\u201d an educational exhibit and presentation focused on the impact of plastic pollution in the Susquehanna River watershed. The program will share key statistics and findings from recent studies on both microplastics and larger plastic debris, highlighting how plastic enters the river system and its effects on water quality and aquatic ecosystems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A featured centerpiece of the booth and presentation will be a kayak constructed from recycled plastic bottles, serving as a hands-on example of plastic reuse and innovation. They will discuss how the kayak was built, its connection to broader sustainability efforts, and its role in raising awareness about plastic pollution. This exhibit aims to engage attendees in conversations about river stewardship, pollution reduction, and practical actions that can help protect the health of the Susquehanna River. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

1:30 PM | Native American Heritage and the Susquehanna River<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this presentation, Sid Jamieson, a member of the Cayuga Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Six Nations Iroquois Confederacy), will share the cultural and historical significance of the Susquehanna River from an Indigenous perspective. Drawing on his personal connection to the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, Sid will discuss the enduring relationship between the Haudenosaunee people and the region, exploring the river’s importance to their heritage, traditions, and history. Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the Susquehanna River as a place of cultural significance and its lasting connection to the Indigenous peoples who have called this region home for generations. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2:30 PM | Wildlife Show<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miller\u2019s Wildlife & Conservation Specialists will be offering a very special live wildlife show! This presentation will allow attendees to experience these creatures up-close while providing an educational component to learn about what makes them so incredible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Kids Activity Area<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities with the Union County Public Library<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union County Library will offer an interactive, family-friendly \u201cSummer Quest: Unearth a Story\u201d themed activity space at the Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo, designed to engage children and families through hands-on exploration, storytelling, and discovery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Programming will include a possible StoryWalk\u00ae featuring If the Dinosaurs Came Back<\/em>, encouraging attendees to move through pages of the story in an outdoor, walkable format. Additional dinosaur-themed activities may include hands-on puzzles, foam dinosaur assembly pieces, and a Tricer-a-toss game to promote play-based learning under the pavilion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children will also have the opportunity to explore a world map paired with dinosaur visuals to learn where different fossils and species were discovered. A simulated fossil dig station may be included, allowing participants to uncover small dinosaur pieces in a sand-based discovery bin, mimicking real archaeological exploration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These activities are designed to support early literacy, curiosity, and STEM learning through imaginative play, while connecting families with library resources and the 2026 Summer Quest reading program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature Crafts with SGP<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Susquehanna Greenway Partnership will lead a hands-on kids\u2019 workshop where participants use natural materials like sticks, rocks, moss, acorns, pinecones, leaves, and other treasures from the outdoors to build their own fairy houses, woodland homes, and imaginative nature-inspired creations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fun and interactive activity encourages creativity, exploration, and a deeper connection to the natural world. Participants can design tiny shelters for fairies and forest creatures or create unique figures and scenes using materials found in nature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climbing Wall<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open to both children and adults, this interactive attraction invites participants of all skill levels to challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment. Faylor Lake Disc Golf will provide a 6-hole mini disc golf course at the Outdoor Expo. The course will feature short holes designed to be accessible for all ages and skill levels. Loaner discs will be available for participants to borrow at no cost, allowing visitors to experience the course without needing their own equipment. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fly Fishing Mouse Trap Game<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TCO Fly Shop will feature a Fly Casting Mousetrap Challenge at the Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo, an interactive station where attendees can try their hand at fly casting accuracy. Participants will use a fly rod to aim at a mousetrap-style target, testing precision and control in a fun, hands-on setting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will assist beginners and experienced anglers alike, offering basic instruction, answering questions, and providing insight into fly fishing techniques, gear, and opportunities for learning. The exhibit is designed to be approachable for all ages and experience levels, giving attendees a chance to engage directly with the sport of fly fishing in an informal, educational environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
